Street in downtown Charleston closed due to burst water pipe

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Charleston Police say a portion of Meeting Street in downtown Charleston is closed as workers repair a broken water main.

The Charleston Fire Department reports that Meeting Street between Calhoun Street and George Street is closed and is expected to remain closed for several hours.

The break took place around 14:45

Due to the break, around 20 customers were without water on Monday afternoon.

Authorities expect crews to be on site into the evening to make repairs and hope to have the work completed by the morning rush hour.

As of Monday afternoon, no boil water advisory had been issued.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
