An 18-year-old man was arrested on attempted murder charges in Coronado, according to police.

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – An 18-year-old man died in a rollover crash on State Route 163 over the weekend, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 4:05 a.m. Sunday on southbound SR-163, north of Friars Road, Salvador Castro of the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.

According to authorities, the victim, from Perris, California, was driving a Nissan Maxima on the main highway when the car left the road for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

“The force of the impact caused the Nissan to overturn and the driver was ejected,” Castro said. “The driver, who was the sole occupant, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating whether driving under the influence was a factor in the crash.

During the investigation, authorities have closed all southbound lanes of SR-163, north of Friars Road.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP San Diego Area at 858-293-6000.
