Officials confirmed that it was too early in the investigation to say whether anyone would face charges in connection with the toddler.

There is also no evidence that the teenager was accidentally left in the vehicle. The police did not want to release any further details.

Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer said, “My only job is to express our condolences to the family, friends, neighbors and everyone affected by this tragedy. We need some time to sort things out before we really know what happened.”

On a GoFundMe page set up to pay for Jacob’s funeral, a family friend described Jacob’s death as an “accident” but declined to comment further.

The fundraiser said: “My brother Noel just lost his two-year-old son in an accident and the family had no insurance to bury him.

“I ask and pray that people here can help raise the money for the family. It is a very difficult time for them. He was an incredibly open-minded boy who loved his father very much.”

So far, over $6,000 has been raised and a memorial service in his honor was held on Saturday at the Iglesia Pentecostal Roca de Salvacion.

The fatal car crash occurred just days after a woman in Florida was arrested for allegedly leaving her two-year-old grandchild in a sweltering car while shopping at the supermarket, police said.

Elena Grady, 63, has been charged with child neglect with serious bodily injury after her grandson was found unattended in a sweltering car in a Publix parking lot on Tuesday.

Volusia County Sheriff’s officers responded to the store around 3 p.m. after store managers noticed a child sitting alone in a parked car, police said.

In a statement on Facebook, it said the child “appeared lethargic” in the car while the car was “parked in the blazing sun, there was no shade, the engine was not running and the windows were slightly open.”

“Let’s avoid a tragedy and remember NOT to leave children, pets or vulnerable adults in a hot vehicle, even for just a few minutes,” the Volusia Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.

According to jail records, Grady was released after midnight Wednesday after posting her $3,000 bail.
