Clarksville man charged with check theft

A Clarksville man was charged with illegal possession of a forged document following an investigation into a check he attempted to cash in Hopkinsville Friday afternoon.

Hopkinsville police said they were called to a bank on Clinic Drive because 55-year-old Eric Taylor stole a $2,175 check that he was trying to cash.

The check appeared to be from Kentucky Organic Farm and Feed in Guthrie, but after checking with police, they said the check was for a different amount and had been placed in their mailbox earlier in the day for an Indiana company.

Taylor allegedly claimed he worked for the company, but gave officers several different names of the company. After speaking with his mother, police said he had not worked and had been disabled for years.

Taylor was arrested and charged with first degree criminal possession of a forged document.
