Tragic bus accident in the Peruvian Andes claims at least 20 lives

Fatal bus accidents are common on Peru’s dangerous mountain roads

PERU:

At least 20 people were killed in a bus accident in the Peruvian Andes on Tuesday, a local police colonel told local radio station RPP.

Jhonny Rolando Valderrama, head of a highway protection unit, told RPP that the accident occurred on the Los Libertadores highway in the Ayacucho region in the central-southern Andes.

Fatal bus accidents are common on Peru’s dangerous mountain roads.

At least 25 people died in April when a bus plunged into a river in Peru’s northern Cajamarca region, and at least 24 people died in a similar accident in the Anco region last September.
