CFW Carolina in Fort Worth reportedly injured during arrest – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Fort Worth police are investigating one of their own officers after a local social media influencer was hospitalized following his arrest early Sunday morning.

According to a press release, Fort Worth Police officers responded to the 1000 block of Foch Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. after a hit-and-run crash was reported.

According to police, the accident involved a suspected drunk driver who collided with another car and a building and then fled the scene on foot.

As officers investigated the accident, they were allegedly approached by a woman. Fort Worth police said an officer repeatedly ordered the woman to move to the other side of the street, but she did not comply, leading to her arrest.

During the arrest, the woman was injured after an officer used force to detain her, police said. The woman was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment and was taken to jail after her release.

The woman arrested was identified as Carolyn Rodríguez.

“I had a concussion,” Rodríguez told NBC 5. “My shoulder was dislocated. My elbow was dislocated. And then the bruising, stitches here on my lip (and eye).”

Initial records show that Rodríguez was being held at the Lon Evans Corrections Center on $4,000 bail and was charged with public misdemeanor, resisting arrest and/or detention, evading arrest and making a false alarm or report. Rodríguez has since been released on bail.

“Sunday morning I was outside filming what I usually do in the entertainment district,” Rodríguez said.

“A few of us observe the police. And we film the police officers carrying out their duties, just to make sure they are not violating anyone’s rights.”

Rodríguez, also known as CFW Carolina in Fort Worth, has 87,500 subscribers on her YouTube channel. The channel aims to raise awareness of issues surrounding the out-of-control criminal justice system and educate the public about their rights and how to exercise them, according to the channel’s bio.

She was live streaming when the incident occurred, and the video has since been viewed over 75,000 times. In the roughly seven-minute-long video, Rodríguez can be seen and heard questioning some of the officers and what appears to be a tow truck driver.

Towards the end of the stream, Rodríguez approached two female police officers and wanted to ask them another question. However, a male police officer approached her and told her to “go to the other side of the street.”

“There is no investigation. There is nothing,” Rodríguez’s response to the police officer can be heard in the YouTube video.

Viewers could hear Rodríguez and the unidentified officer arguing before the officer threatened to arrest her and then did so. There was a brief scuffle before the video faded to black and the officer yelled, “Stop resisting!”

Shortly afterwards, Rodríguez appeared unresponsive and someone else said: “She’s bleeding!”

“I remember waking up in a hospital and that was it,” Rodríguez said. “I don’t know how I fell. I don’t know how he pushed me down.”

Fort Worth City Councilman Chris Nettles released a statement on Tuesday, June 25, about Rodríguez’s arrest and called on police to release bodycam footage of the incident.

“It was alarming,” Nettles told NBC 5. “We should see the officer’s body camera footage.”

Nettles also publicly called for a board meeting to discuss the issue with police leadership.

On Tuesday afternoon, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker announced that the meeting would take place on Friday at 3 p.m. Nettles had also requested a meeting where the public would have an opportunity to comment.

“One of the things we are accused of is not listening to our voters,” Nettles said.

“That’s why I think it’s important to let them have their say before we go into recess. Let’s hear what they have to say.”

Fort Worth police said this incident, which involved the use of force, is under investigation by Fort Worth police.

“We are committed to accountability and transparency in all our operations and will ensure that this investigation is thorough and impartial,” Fort Worth police said.
