A California woman was arrested last week after she allegedly kicked and shook a toddler on a flight from Mexico to Seattle.

Breanna R. Mistler, 33, was arrested at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle on May 1 after witnesses said she abused a 2-year-old child on a Delta flight from Puerta Vallarta, KIRO7 reports.

Mistler was arrested at the airport. Customs and Border Protection officials told investigators they found bruises on the child.

According to a criminal complaint, the toddler woke up Mistler and several passengers saw Mistler shaking the child “like a rag doll,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. According to the complaint, Mistler continued to abuse the child while other passengers tried to intervene.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement: “Judge Brian Tsuchida ordered Mistler incarcerated at the federal prison in SeaTac, saying he was concerned for the child’s safety “because (Mistler) committed the assaults in front of so many people.” on a long plane trip.”

The judge said he had an independent duty to protect the victim.

Authorities did not say whether Mistler is the child’s mother. According to KTXL, the child was placed with other relatives.
