Police no longer looking for suspects in Houston Farmers Market murder, but say investigation is ongoing

HOUSTON — The people of Houston were shocked early Thursday morning when two men brutally murdered a Houston Farmers Market employee as the duo attempted to steal a golf cart. Just one day later, police appear to have zeroed in on the suspects.

On Friday afternoon, a Houston police spokesperson told KPRC 2 that investigators were “no longer looking for suspects” but their investigation was still ongoing.

We then asked if her statement meant that charges had been filed or that suspects were in custody, but HPD said that information would not be released at this time.

Police were notified of the shooting around 4:15 a.m. Thursday when a call came in reporting a shooting on Airline Drive in north Houston. Officers said they found a dead man in the employee parking lot when they arrived.

At least four cartridge cases were found at the crime scene.

Investigators believe the victim – an employee in the area whose identity has not yet been released – confronted the two men as they attempted to steal a golf cart. A scuffle ensued and the victim was shot in the parking lot. An armed security guard was reportedly near the scene but was unable to draw her weapon before the shooters escaped.

The employee was described as being around 40 years old, while the shooters were probably in their teens.

The Houston Farmers Market opens to the public at 6 a.m., but is said to be open earlier for deliveries. Because of this, investigators believe the killers knew the door would be open and that’s why they got in. However, it’s unclear if they took anything.

As the investigation continues, the Houston Farmers Market announced it will remain closed until further notice.

At the time of this writing, the shooters remain at large. Police have released surveillance camera photos and asked the public to call 713-222-TIPS (8477) if they have any information leading to their identities.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated as new information becomes available.
