Man attacks roommate and injures him with large knife: Palatine PD

The Arlington Heights resident has been charged with multiple crimes, including attempted murder, in connection with the incidents last month.

PALATINE, IL — A 73-year-old Arlington Heights man was charged Tuesday with multiple crimes stemming from an attack on a roommate last month at a Palatine apartment. Juan Hernandez is charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and two counts of aggravated assault following the April 8 incident at the Windhaven Condominiums, 17 E Dundee Quarter Drive.

Hernandez will remain in custody after a detention hearing on Wednesday until his next court date on June 21. Police said he also had two outstanding warrants out of Lake County for aggravated assault at the time of his arrest.

According to police, Hernandez attacked his 37-year-old male roommate with a large knife in the Palatine apartment before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered cuts and was treated at a local hospital and released.
