Jeremy Renner talks about his limited energy for acting after accident; says ‘Focus on reality’ | English Film News

Jeremy Renner has revealed that he currently lacks the energy to take on demanding acting roles. In an interview on the podcast “SmartLess”, hosted by Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman, Renner spoke about his ongoing recovery and how it has affected the way he works.

Renner, who suffered blunt chest trauma in an accident, explained that his main focus is on his physical and mental recovery. He mentioned that he is devoting most of his energy to his health and well-being. “I don’t have the energy for demanding roles right now,” Renner explained, suggesting that the effort required for such roles is beyond his current capacity. He elaborated that it takes significant energy just to maintain a positive attitude and make daily progress in his recovery.

The actor stressed that acting, especially for demanding roles, requires a level of energy and commitment that he cannot currently muster. He described how difficult it is to return to the world of fantasy while still working hard to cope with reality. Renner noted that even returning to his role in “Mayor of Kingstown” for Season 3 was a daunting task. He admitted that he was scared and had mental issues returning to acting and that it was a huge challenge for him to overcome that mental barrier.

Renner further explained that while he was able to step into a familiar role for the series, it would have been impossible for him at that time to take on a very demanding role, such as portraying a character far removed from his own experiences. He clarified that while the series itself is challenging, he would not be able to handle a role that requires intense emotional and psychological effort, such as portraying a character similar to Jeffrey Dahmer.

Despite these challenges, Renner will join the cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery alongside Daniel Craig, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close and Andrew Scott. In this next installment in the Knives Out saga, Renner will play a role that is likely more suited to his current skillset.

Renner’s candid conversation highlights the impact his accident has had on his professional life and the adjustments he’s had to make. As he continues to recover, he remains focused on staying healthy and taking on roles that match his current energy level.
