Salinas police arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with an attempted rape in East Salinas.

According to police, a 24-year-old woman started shooting in Salinas on the 900 block of North Madeira Ave. on Tuesday around 6 p.m. to scream for help. Her screams were scary enough to make someone call 911.

“Our officers responded and quickly located the 24-year-old victim in this case and began an investigation into when an attempted rape occurred,” said Salinas Police Department Commander Gabriel Gonzalez. “Within 24 hours, this case was investigated. “Detectives and officers were able to locate the suspect in East Salinas and take him into custody.”

Surveillance video at the scene captured the entire incident and also provided a clear image of the suspect, according to Commander Gonzalez.

The suspect is a 27-year-old man who is now facing several charges, including attempted rape and kidnapping. Salinas police say he was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

“We can see that the suspect is physically moving the victim. “It’s not a significant distance, but it’s still a distance that justifies the kidnapping charge,” Commander Gonzalez said.

Salinas police say they will not release the surveillance video at this time because it is considered evidence
