Man dead after crashing into utility pole in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – A driver died after crashing into a utility pole on Campostella Road in Chesapeake, police said.

Chesapeake Police responded to a single vehicle accident near the 2000 block of Campostella Road. Sunday around 7 p.m.

According to police, the driver left the road, struck a utility pole and then crashed into a business near the corner of Campostella Road and Battlefield Boulevard.

A man who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, the accident initially caused a gas leak, which has since been stopped. Power outages were reported in the area as a result of the crash.

The Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded and continues to investigate the accident.

The driver’s identity was not released.
