WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Two people were taken to a local hospital for injuries after what police say was a violent incident in East Kellogg on Sunday afternoon.

A Wichita police officer said police were called to Towne East Square at 12:43 p.m. for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon. Officers responded to the area of ​​Kellogg and Armor and were advised by citizens that the incident may have been a road rage incident.

Police said they learned that during a traffic dispute on Kellogg Street, a person in a vehicle produced a gun, saw officers in the area and fled. WPD says a slight pursuit ensued, but officers ignored it and turned back toward Towne East.

A few minutes later, officers learned of an accident that occurred near Kellogg and Oliver.

A witness said he had just come from QuikTrip when he saw a four-car accident. The witness says he believes the incident began in Towne East when a driver brandished a gun. He recalled that one man had to be extricated from a vehicle and another was handcuffed.

Kellogg & Oliver was closed for a short time while crews worked on cleanup after the crash. The intersection is now open again.

The police say they are continuing to investigate the accident.
