Woman calling ambulance arrested for suspected truck theft

A woman who reportedly called LifeNet and requested an ambulance was arrested early Monday for allegedly being in possession of a pickup truck that had been reported stolen about 90 minutes earlier.

Alexanderia Caitlyn Haugen, 31, of Ard Point address, was taken into custody around 3:15 a.m. and charged with theft of property valued at over $5,000, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Haugen, who has no prior criminal record, was held on $3,500 bail and was scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court on Wednesday.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Hampton went to the 100 block of Couchwood Road to seek assistance from LifeNet just before 2:30 a.m. Before he arrived, dispatchers reported that a woman on site had called LifeNet about “an unknown problem.”

An officer at the scene said he lent a woman his phone so she could call an ambulance and then walked with the deputy around the corner to where he last saw her.

Hampton made contact with a woman on the corner of the building, later identified as Haugen, and asked her what was wrong. Haugen reportedly said, “I think I’m having a psychotic episode.” Hampton had her sit down and when she did, she allegedly said, “I’m in trouble, aren’t I?”

Hampton said no and asked why she was in trouble, to which she allegedly said, “I stole that truck,” and pointed to a white 2016 GMC Sierra pickup in the parking lot. She then pointed to a set of keys on the ground.

Hampton checked the truck’s license plate, which confirmed that it had been reported stolen from the National Park Medical Center parking lot at about 1:45 a.m. that same day.

Haugen was taken into custody without incident at the time. The affidavit states that the truck is valued at $10,000.
