2. Sandy Springs, author of a book by Augusta on “Trial Watchers”

⚖️ “Trial Watchers,” a new book by Neil Gordon of Augusta with Mike Petchenik of Sandy Springs (pictured), has its roots in a group of true crime enthusiasts, including Gordon’s wife, Melissa.

Melissa told Gordon she wanted to take on a personal project as a friends trip with a fellow photographer to attend the Alex Murdaugh murder trial in the Low Country of South Carolina. She made this trip and met journalists and “ordinary people” who came to attend the trial.

“Trial Watchers” tells the story of his wife and that of several other trial observers. He paired these stories with co-author Petchenik’s take on other aspects of trial observation, including the psychology of it.
