Woman killed in Burke County collision, cops say – WSOC TV

BURKE COUNTY, NC — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening in Burke County.

Police said a 2016 Toyota Tacoma traveling west on Rhodhiss Road crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1997 Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Sportage, 42-year-old Lori Jean Ward, died of her injuries at the scene. According to police, she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Tacoma was taken to UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton with minor injuries.

According to police, initial investigations indicate that neither speed nor alcohol contributed to the collision.

After the investigation is completed, charges will be filed.
