Central Florida school principal arrested for drunk driving, officials say

A central Florida elementary school teacher was arrested for drunken driving Friday after fleeing a traffic stop, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Otis Kitchen II, 45, is the principal of Town and Country Elementary School in Tampa. Officers said they attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 10 p.m., but Kitchen II did not stop and fled the scene in his vehicle. Kitchen II continued driving and parked in his garage. Officers said he then exited his vehicle and was taken into custody, but found to be exhibiting clear signs of impairment. The HCSO said the signs included bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, odor of alcohol, unsteady footing and self-urination. Officers said Kitchen II had difficulty completing a field sobriety test and found a blood alcohol content of .142/.142 after a breath sample. Kitchen II was arrested for driving while intoxicated and fleeing from a police officer, officials said. That incident remains under investigation.

Kitchen II was arrested for driving while intoxicated and fleeing from a police officer, officials said. The incident remains under investigation.
