A 22-year-old Pontiac man has been charged following a confrontation with Oakland County Sheriff’s officers and a SWAT team in the city on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said the situation occurred just before 4:30 p.m. when officers were called to the 800 block of Bay Street for a car crash and discovered a broken-down car with blood on the door and rearview mirror. A caller reported a man got out of the car and threatened neighbors.

The sheriff’s office further reported that while searching the area, a shot was fired behind a home. They found fresh damage to the back door wall of the home, blood on the outside of the door and a trail of blood leading into the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Officers surrounded the home and called the man, but he did not come out, so a drone and SWAT team were activated and called to the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was eventually arrested without further incident. He appeared to be under the influence of a substance that was not immediately identified, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers concluded that the man had numerous warrants for his arrest and had no connection to the home he broke into, the sheriff’s office said.

A soft handgun case was found in the crashed vehicle and the home the man broke into was searched, the sheriff’s office said. A nearby body of water was also searched, but no firearm was found, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was booked into the Oakland County Jail.
