Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud still has ‘a lot to learn,’ which should scare NFL

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud had one of the best rookie seasons a young signal-caller could have in 2023.

Stroud became one of eight rookies in NFL history to win a playoff game, joining an elite club that includes some of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL.

Now, with a year of experience, Stroud remains humble and doesn’t consider himself a top veteran.

“I’m still pretty new in the game,” Stroud said. “I’m still pretty new. I’m only in my second year, so I have a lot to learn. I want to get better. I’m willing to get better. And I’m willing to be vulnerable about it and ask questions. I ask tough questions. I want to know why I’m doing what I’m doing. Last year, I was able to see a lot of success from that. There’s also things I need to improve on. So it’s finding that balance between not shooting yourself in the foot, but also holding yourself accountable when you need to be, but still getting back up and having confidence. That’s kind of where I’m at now, definitely.”

This is where things get scary for the Texans. We realize that Stroud is only 22 years old, but he acts like someone much more mature.

The Texans have four years left on his current contract to really make a run at the Super Bowl while he’s on a more affordable deal, but Houston could keep him for much longer.

Stroud’s wisdom beyond his years puts the Texans in the contenders’ window for a very long time.
