Attack on children’s hospital in Kyiv triggers violent reaction from a Ukrainian

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – This week, Russian forces attacked a children’s hospital in Ukraine, and reactions condemning the attack have poured in from around the world, including Sioux Falls.

Throughout the war, we have heard from Viktor Voznyuk, a Ukrainian-American living in Sioux Falls, who called the attack on the children’s hospital the most heinous attack yet.

“You feel like your heart has been pierced and is bleeding. As a father, I was angry too,” Voznyuk said.

Voznyuk says that when he saw the attack, he thought of the children’s hospital here in South Dakota, and that only increased his anger. He adds that attacks like this fit right into Russia’s history of warfare.

“Anne Applebaum described the KGB’s tactics very well. They always try to spread falsehood and fear. That is their nature, but in such a barbaric way. So they tried to kill something sacred in us, something human. It is a crime against humanity,” Voznyuk said.

During the conflict, South Dakota’s congressional delegation on Capitol Hill stood behind Ukraine.

Viktor is grateful for the support.

“They are great people. They have the wisdom needed to lead this nation. I hope that at least one of them will become a candidate for president of the United States,” Voznyuk said.

Vladimir Putin’s proposal to hand over four Ukrainian territories to Russia, some of which are not even controlled by Russian forces, is the region’s ceasefire so far. In addition, Ukraine must give up any ambitions to join NATO.

Voznyuk is against such a proposal.

“You can’t take Russia’s promises because they have been breaking them for centuries. Whether individually or all together, it doesn’t matter. No, it doesn’t matter. Russia must be defeated,” Voznyuk said.

During our interview with Voznyuk, he said that he believes the war would already be over if Ukraine had received supplies on time. He added that the United States must continue to supply Ukraine with weapons.
