First weather warning for the coming hot week

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Sunny and warm conditions are expected across Arizona today, with highs in the Valley reaching near 40 degrees this afternoon. That’s about three degrees warmer than normal for this time of year in the Valley.

The state is in for a big warm-up this week as strong high pressure begins to form over our region. In the Valley, highs will climb to 105 degrees on Tuesday, but then climb another five degrees on Wednesday to our first 110-degree day of the year.

As the high pressure system strengthens, temperatures will rise to nearly 115 degrees Thursday and Friday, which could break heat records for this time of year. An extreme heat warning has been issued for the state’s deserts, including the Valley metro area, from Wednesday morning through Friday evening. All three days are First Alert Weather days.

The ridge will weaken over the weekend and temperatures will remain hot but should fall below 40 degrees in the afternoon. The valley will stay dry for at least the next week, but a few isolated thunderstorms could develop in the higher elevations by the weekend. We’ll keep you updated.
