Chicago police cite pickup truck driver after 4-year-old boy struck, killed: authorities – NBC Chicago

Family members on Sunday evening identified the 4-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 5:24 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Harper, according to Chicago police. A westbound pickup truck attempted to turn north when it struck a 4-year-old boy named Zaire Askew.

Zaire was taken to Como Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Division conducted an investigation Sunday evening.
