College Station man accused of murdering his grandfather and brother faces trial

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – New details are emerging about a shooting at a College Station home near a city park last month, but it’s still unclear what prompted Mike Anthony Epperson to allegedly kill two of his family members and wound a third before fleeing town.

According to police, 19-year-old Mike Anthony Epperson shot and killed his grandfather Seferino Aleman and his brother Isaac Garcia on Thursday evening, May 23.

A third family member, Joseph Aleman, Epperson’s uncle, was also shot but survived.

The shooting was reported shortly before 10 p.m. in a duplex on Colgate Drive across from Wolf Pen Creek Park.

According to a police report obtained by KBTX, Epperson went to borrow the keys to Joseph’s car and returned to the house with a firearm that was in the car. For an unknown reason, Epperson began firing the gun at his family members, hitting both his grandfather and brother in the chest. He shot his uncle in the arm.

Three other family members living in the house, including two teenagers, were unharmed.

One of them heard Epperson say, “They’re following me,” as he fired the gun, the police report said. When asked who was following him, he did not answer.

Epperson then took his uncle’s car and fled to Killeen, where he was found and taken into custody.

Epperson was transferred back to Brazos County and remains in jail there. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of felony battery on multiple persons. His bail is set at $3 million.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased’s family. Our Victim Assistance Coordinator has also been working with the family to provide them with resources and support as they deal with this tragedy,” said College Station Police spokesman David Simmons.
