Lehi High School teacher hospitalized after incident during swing class

A Lehi High School teacher was hospitalized after an incident during a swing class Friday.

Alpine School District officials said no students were injured in the “tragic, very unfortunate accident,” about which no further details were released.

The teacher’s name was not given, but a spokesman described him as a man.

The Lehi Police Department and Lehi Fire Department immediately responded to the incident and the area was secured. The incident was reported in the agriculture building, which hosts some career and technical courses and is separate from the main building on campus.

Officials said there were no additional risks to students or visitors to the school.

“The parents of all Lehi High students have been notified of the accident and of the support services and crisis counseling available to them,” the district said in a statement. “During this difficult time, we extend our deepest concern to the affected teachers and their families.”

District officials added that they will continue to work with first responders “to ensure the school community is safe and informed.”

A statement to parents read as follows:

Parents of Lehi High students:

There was an accident in the welding shop in the Ag building around 11:40 this morning. All students were removed from the classroom and there were no student injuries. One of our teachers was injured and transported to a hospital.

Because emergency responders need access, the school was briefly placed on HOLD status, meaning students remained in their classrooms while classes continued as normal. The HOLD has now been lifted and students have been released for lunch.

We have an advisory team currently working with students who were in the classroom and witnessed the accident. We also offer counseling support for any other students or adults who require additional support.
