Houston Mayor to Announce Details of Back 2 School Fest 2024

HOUSTON – With the 2024-2025 school year quickly approaching, the City of Houston is working to ensure parents and students have all the tools they need to succeed before returning to campus.

On Tuesday at 10 a.m., Mayor John Whitmire is expected to provide details on the annual Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest presented by Shell. Each year, the city partners with Shell to help underserved elementary school students in the Houston area by providing backpacks and school supplies.

According to the city’s website, this year’s event will fill additional gaps — and not just provide school supplies.

“In addition to distributing 25,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, the event will include on-site health screenings, including dental exams and sealants, vision exams and routine immunizations,” the city said. “The event also connects families with a wide range of health and social services offered by community agencies. Students in the Houston area continue to need help with basic school supplies and health screenings.”

The mayor’s press conference will be streamed live in this article and additional details will be shared as more information becomes available.
