More rain today ahead of a drier, warmer week

(KFVS) – A few strong thunderstorms moved through the Heartland overnight, but things are slowly clearing up as a smaller system moves through the area.

This system will bring thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. 1 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible.

A flood warning remains in effect for parts of southeast Missouri, so please stay alert to the weather.

Around 10 a.m., Meghan Smith said, this system will break up into individual cells. That means the system will weaken as it moves through the area during the afternoon. As these cells move east into southern Illinois, they will begin to break up.

Another system could form again this evening in southeast Missouri and western Kentucky, but by 10 p.m. all storms and rain will have cleared the region.

Tonight we expect temperatures around 20 degrees and partly cloudy skies as the showers move south. Clouds and wind will remain throughout the night.

Monday morning will see significantly more sunshine, with lows above 10 degrees. In the afternoon, highs will reach above 25 degrees, with mostly sunny skies. More good news: low humidity for Monday and Tuesday.

Tuesday will be very similar to Monday, both with mild temperatures, low humidity and plenty of sunshine.

From Wednesday, temperatures will begin to rise, reaching highs of between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius. Humidity will also increase.

From Thursday, temperatures will rise to over 30 degrees and it will become increasingly humid as a small heat dome forms over the region.

Temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius will continue over the weekend. There is a very low chance of rain on Friday and Sunday, but sunny to mostly sunny weather is expected throughout the week.
