Woman arrested for driving to her family at more than 160 km/h and being involved in an accident

A Boone County woman was arrested and faces a total of nine charges after traveling over 100 miles per hour and refusing to stop for police while speeding toward her family members who were involved in an accident. Kassandra Sue Riley, 29, of rural Harrison, was booked into the Boone County Jail following the May 23 incident.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office affidavit, a deputy was on patrol when he noticed a car approaching from behind at a high rate of speed with its hazard lights on. A woman was hanging out the passenger window, yelling and waving at him.

The officer slowed down and rolled down the window, but the vehicle did not slow down and sped past.

The deputy began to follow the car and noticed it was going 100 mph and the vehicle was driving away from him. When he caught up to the vehicle, they were traveling between 115 and 120 mph. The vehicle was passing other vehicles in the turn lane and weaving through traffic at over 100 mph. The chase continued past the Valley Springs school at over 100 mph.

The deputy learned the driver was en route to Newton County where her children had been involved in an accident, and Newton County dispatch reported that she refused to stop. Boone County dispatch was able to call Riley, who eventually stopped, ending the chase that lasted nearly five miles.

There were two teenagers in the back seat. One of them said she kept telling Riley to slow down and pull over, but she refused.

Riley told the deputy that her mother and children had been involved in a car accident in Newton County and that she was on her way there.

Riley is charged with fleeing and aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and traffic violations including reckless driving, careless and prohibited driving, improper lane changing, improper passing, failure to wear a seatbelt and speeding. She is free on $7,500 bail.
