Social media posts claiming that the man attacked in the video was Bhagwant Mann are false

The video was shared on social media with a false claim.

Several social media users shared a video of a mob attacking a man wearing a turban, claiming that he was Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. During its investigation, the department found that the man in the video was one Amandeep Singh Boparai, the president of an organisation called Yuva Jatt Sabha, who was attacked in Jammu in April this year. The video was shared on social media with a false claim.

An Instagram user shared a video on May 13 in which a group of men attacked a man wearing a turban and police officers tried to rescue him. The user claimed that the man being beaten up was Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The caption of the post read: “This is truly an amazing experience, but I’m so glad we’re getting back together soon!”

An English translation of the caption read: “See how Prime Minister Bhagwat Mann was beaten!”
