Why is Darwin Nunez allowed to play against Canada? Uruguay’s star will not be banned from the playoff for third place at the Copa America despite arguing fans

Darwin Nunez is eligible to play in tonight’s third-place match at the Copa America despite ongoing investigations.

The Liverpool striker fought with fans to help his family who were sitting in the stands after Uruguay’s 1-0 loss to Colombia.

Nunez could be seen thrashing around after climbing among the fans, while chaos erupted near the seats of the players’ relatives throughout the game.

Because of the incident, he was expected to be suspended for the third-place match against Canada, but it has now been confirmed that he will be able to play.

Why is Nunez allowed to play against Canada?

Nunez can play in the third-place match of the Copa America because the investigation into the ordeal has not yet produced a conclusive result.

As a result, the striker is still awaiting punishment and any possible penalty imposed on him and his teammates will be applied after the game against Canada.

Nunez trained before the encounter and is expected to play.

On Thursday, the South American football confederation CONMEBOL released a statement confirming that it was investigating the shocking incident.

The statement read: “The CONMEBOL Disciplinary Committee has opened an investigation to clarify the sequence of events and the responsibility of those involved in the violence at the end of the match between Uruguay and Colombia.

“On the eve of the Copa America final, we would like to reiterate and warn that no action will be tolerated that tarnishes this global football festival, which involves both the players and the fans present in the stadium and is watched by hundreds of millions of viewers around the world.

And the striker comforted his child on the pitch after the shocking scenes

“It is unacceptable that passion turns into violence in an incident like this. Therefore, no behavior that harms sporting competition and the most beautiful spectacle in the world, which belongs to the entire football family, will be tolerated.”

Nunez, Ronald Araujo, Mathias Olivera, Rodrigo Bentancur, Santiago Mele, Sebastian Caceres, Emiliano Martinez, Matias Vina, Brian Rodriguez, Jose Gimenez and Facundo Pellistri are under investigation.

All of these players face lengthy bans for their involvement in the violence.

However, the punishment will be decided tonight after the match for third place.
