Teen killed, another injured in Lauderdale Lakes shooting – NBC 6 South Florida

A 16-year-old was killed and a 15-year-old was injured in a shooting in Lauderdale Lakes on Monday evening.

Officials with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 4000 block of Northwest 30th Terrace in Lauderdale Lakes just after 8:30 p.m., where they found both boys with gunshot wounds.

Both teens were transported to the hospital. The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center, while the 15-year-old is expected to survive, according to authorities.

According to witness statements, the 16-year-old was shot three times, including once in the face. The 15-year-old was shot in the arm.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the teens, but according to a family GoFundMe page, the deceased victim is Amari Dreakford.

His aunt described him as one of many loved ones and said he will be sorely missed after this sudden loss.

Witnesses said the suspected gunman waited for the two victims and then ambushed the teens. They said the gunman covered his face with something and wore a white T-shirt before jumping into a car and driving away.

Residents reported seeing the gunman running and trying to help Dreakford before paramedics arrived.

“After the first victim fell to the ground, he just kept shooting at him even after he fell, and after that he chased the second victim down the street,” said one man, Rick, who declined to give his last name.

“He was bleeding from the mouth. He was shot here (points to cheek), he was shot in the leg, once in the stomach and somewhere in his private parts,” said witness Ihsan Sanders. “It’s too close to home. My daughter plays out here every day, so now when I come home I’m paranoid half the time and don’t even open the door.”

Officials are currently intensively searching for the shooter.
