Woman killed in shooting in Socrates Place on Sunday morning

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Police detectives are investigating after a woman was shot and killed in Akron early Sunday morning.

According to Akron police, officers were called to a shooting in the 100 block of Socrates Place at around 12:26 a.m.

When they arrived, officers found a 24-year-old woman with an apparent gunshot wound to her upper body.

Rescue workers took the woman to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her name was not released.

According to Akron police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been determined, left the scene on foot after the shooting.

The shooting has been ruled a homicide and remains under investigation.
