Northfield police chief’s mailbox damaged in early morning incident, driver charged

NORTHFIELD – A vehicle crashed into the Northfield police chief’s mailbox early this morning, prompting an investigation that ended with an arrest, officials said.

According to Northfield police, the police chief’s mailbox was raided at 4:45 a.m. Authorities initially asked the public for help in gathering information about the incident.

Later that day, police announced that the vehicle involved in the incident had been identified and was already being investigated by State Police in Canterbury for other incidents.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested by state police and charged in connection with the incident.

The investigation found that the damage to the police chief’s mailbox was not malicious.

The name of the arrested person has not been released pending further investigations.
