A prostitute was strangled and sexually assaulted before being left for dead in a Las Vegas hotel. Police said the suspect confessed he had “lost his mind.”

Larissa Garcia died on June 21, more than a week after she was found in a hotel room at the Palms Casino Resort, according to 8NewsNow. She worked as an escort in the area under the names “Andrea” and “Dallas.”

Last week, 35-year-old Jason Kendall turned himself in to police in connection with her murder, sexual assault and assault, the report said.

On June 12, Kendall called police and said a woman had overdosed in the hotel room, according to police records obtained by the outlet.

Hotel security rushed to the room and found Garica lying on the floor with his jaw split open.

She was taken to the hospital, where doctors reportedly determined that she had no alcohol or drugs in her system, leading doctors to believe she had been the victim of an assault.

Six days after the attack, a nurse determined Garcia had been strangled and “possibly asphyxiated.” Garcia died on June 21 after doctors declared her brain dead.

Video footage showed Kendall meeting Garcia in the casino lobby and an hour later, he was seen leaving the room without anyone else entering or leaving, the report said.

Investigators also found messages between Kendall and the victim. Kendall’s search history also showed that he had viewed her online advertisements.

Police met with Kendall and he requested an attorney. According to the report, officers found he had back and shoulder injuries.

Last week, Kendall went to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police headquarters to turn himself in, the report said, where he confessed to paying Garcia $2,000 before strangling and assaulting her.

“Jason said Larissa demanded additional payment and he ‘freaked out,'” police records state. “He punched her in the face and ‘choked’ her for 10 minutes,’ and then ‘had sex with her.’ After having sex with Larissa, Jason wrote, ‘he dragged her away from the door and left.’ After leaving the hotel, he called police to report an overdose.”

Friends told 8NewsNow that Garcia was a mother of two and was attending school. Kendall is an Army veteran — though it’s unclear when he served or if he was deployed.

Kendall is being held without bail until his next court date, scheduled for July 2.
