According to Sacramento police, the body found in Rocklin was that of an off-duty officer

(FOX40.COM) – The body of a man found near a Rocklin intersection Thursday morning was that of an off-duty Sacramento Police Department officer, the department said shortly after noon.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and tragic death of one of our employees, Officer Daniel Bartlett,” the department said in a statement.


Investigators with the Rocklin Police Department told FOX40.com that there were no signs of foul play and it appeared Bartlett died of natural causes while walking near his home.

Rocklin police were at the intersection of University Ave. after 6 a.m. and Larkspur Drive, north of William Jessup University, responded to a call about an unresponsive man in the roadway.

Firefighters who responded discovered the man had passed by.

Sacramento police said Bartlett was 30 years old, had been an officer with the department for more than four years and left behind a wife and young child.
