Crime Stoppers | Police seek ID of suspect in attempted armed robbery | Courts-Police-Fire

CHAMPAIGN – Champaign County Crime Stoppers needs help identifying a suspect who attempted to rob a man at gunpoint in Champaign last week.

A man was walking on the sidewalk of North Market Street near the Interstate 74 overpass around 4:25 a.m. Wednesday morning when a person blocked his path, the Champaign County Crime Stoppers said.

The man went into the street to avoid the perpetrator, but the perpetrator followed him, pulled out a gun and demanded the victim’s phone and backpack.

As a vehicle approached, a scuffle broke out between the two men and the victim managed to enter a nearby store.

The suspect then fled on foot south on Market Street.

Police are asking the public for help in identifying the suspect.

He was described as a young black man, 5’7″ tall and weighing about 130 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, a black shirt and dark pants.
