SPD investigates shooting with one dead and two injured

Statesboro police are investigating a shooting incident Monday that left one man dead and two others injured with gunshot wounds.
According to a press release from Captain Jared Akins on Tuesday, SPD officers were called to the Cambridge Pines Apartments on Lanier Drive in Statesboro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday for a report of shots fired.
“While these officers were still en route to Pines, two adult males arrived at East Georgia Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds,” Akins said in the release. “When officers arrived in Pines, they located an adult male with gunshot wounds and began to render aid.”
Shortly after arriving, Bulloch County EMS determined the man had died. Akins said investigators then went to both the Pines complex and the hospital to begin the criminal investigation.
“As the evening progressed, investigators determined that the surviving men had driven away from the Pines after the shooting and that there was a connection between them and the deceased man,” Akins said. “At this point in the investigation, it appears that an argument between the identified individuals led to the shooting.”
Akins said the identities of the parties involved would not be released at this time pending further investigation. Further releases will be made as the case progresses, he said.
Officers from the Georgia Southern University Police Department and deputies from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office helped secure the scene and “their assistance is greatly appreciated,” Akins said.
