Mourners take to the streets for the 5-year-old girl shot dead on Chicago’s West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) – A grieving community pleaded for peace on Chicago’s West Side Friday night.

Residents of the 200th block of South Campbell Avenue, north of Jackson Boulevard, took to the streets to mourn 5 year old Reign Ware – an innocent victim of gun violence.

The rally supported neighbors and families who are fighting against gun violence and called for people to surrender their weapons – either publicly or anonymously.

Last Sunday morning, around 3:30 a.m., a group of people were standing on the same block where the rally was taking place when shots were fired.

According to police, Reign was in a parked car when she was struck by gunfire. She was struck in the upper abdomen and taken to Cook County Stroger Hospital, where she died.
