Harrisburg Police Sergeant Tyron Meike told News 8 that at least one gun was thrown into the Susquehanna River, and that a second may have been thrown into the river. Police said two juveniles and an adult male were arrested, with a gun found on one juvenile. Thursday night was primarily a security concern, and a search will be conducted Friday for the missing gun or guns, Meike said. Williams issued a statement on the incident: “Tonight, officers assisted in preventing what could have been a potentially catastrophic event at the Fourth of July fireworks display at Riverfront Park in Harrisburg. On three separate occasions, our officers observed what they believed to be weapons in the crowd. Each time they approached the individuals, they would run. The first person they encountered was a juvenile who had a gun with a 24-round magazine. Harrisburg Police officers arrested him. The second person, an adult male, ran with another juvenile and threw his gun into the river. Both were arrested. The third was a boy with a pellet gun. He was eventually stopped and released. Other children set off fireworks and ran. One person ran into me and fell on my leg.” “I am deeply grateful to the Harrisburg Bureau of Police officers for their heroic actions. When they saw a potential danger, they ran toward it, preventing what could have been a disaster,” Williams said. No shots were fired in the incident. Current traffic updates can be found here.
