WARM SPRINGS, Ga. – A police chief has been fired and 11 of 12 officers have been suspended following an internal department investigation.

The city of Warm Springs in Meriwether County announced Wednesday the firing of Police Chief Emilio Quintana and the suspension of 11 officers. 11Alive.com reported. One officer, Aisha Al-Khalifa, remains on duty and has been appointed interim police chief.

In a statement, city officials said the changes were made after “careful review of recent events and emerging concerns about conduct and operations within the department. The goal of the investigation is to ensure the integrity and accountability of our police officers and to restore public trust.”

“We understand the impact this decision will have on the community and are committed to maintaining public safety and trust. More information will be provided once the investigation is complete,” said Councilwoman Tammy Howe.

The Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office will assist the department as needed, city officials said. “The Meriwether Sheriff’s Office has previously assisted the City of Warm Springs, as well as any other city within Meriwether’s jurisdiction, and will continue to do so whether or not a city officer is on duty,” the sheriff’s office said.
