Jayson Boebert sentenced to six months probation for January incident | Western Colorado

Jayson Boebert, the ex-husband of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation on Wednesday following two separate incidents involving police in early January.

Jayson Boebert pleaded guilty in connection with an incident on January 9 in which a physical altercation allegedly occurred between Jayson Boebert and his son.

Another set of minor misdemeanor charges related to a Jan. 6 incident at Miner’s Claim restaurant in Silt, in which Jayson Boebert allegedly argued with Lauren Boebert and then refused to leave the restaurant when police arrived, were dropped as part of the agreement.

“Mr. Boebert takes responsibility. He obviously regrets being here,” said Jayson Boebert’s lawyer.

In the Jan. 9 incident, Jayson Boebert was charged with possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, harassment and assault. According to police records, the incident occurred at Boebert’s home near Silt. The couple’s son called the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office to report an altercation between him and his father. It was also reported that Jayson Boebert grabbed a rifle and left the house.

At Wednesday’s hearing, it was reported that Boebert’s son later testified that no weapon was involved in the altercation and that the relationship between Jayson Boebert and his son has since improved.

According to Wednesday’s hearing, the argument occurred because Jayson Boebert was worried about his son and newborn grandson.

Judge Jonathan Pototsky said that four children plus a new grandson could put a huge strain on a household: “I can imagine that would be quite a powder keg.”

However, Pototsky said the circumstances should not be used as an excuse for inappropriate behavior, and the Boebert family is under close scrutiny because of Lauren Boebert’s status as a congresswoman.

Jayson Boebert was also fined $40 plus court costs for the incident.
