The Boulder Police Oversight Board will hold a series of public meetings this summer about upcoming changes to the board’s charter.

The panel, made up of civilians from diverse backgrounds, was created in 2020 to review complaints against police officers and make recommendations to the Boulder Police Department regarding discipline, policy and training.

The Board of Supervisors adopted its first charter two years ago, but it requires some updates and adjustments, including due to the new police oversight ordinance that the City Council passed last year.

Many of the changes will help bring the Body’s statutes into line with the new regulation governing the Body’s work, but some will also help streamline the statutes and make them easier to use and reference.

A subcommittee on the board’s bylaws was formed to work on the changes. The members of the panel are Abigail Franke and the board’s co-chair, Soledad Diaz.

Consultant Farah Muscadin, who previously worked with the board on updating the oversight ordinance, has returned to the city to help update the charter. The city will pay Muscadin $200 an hour up to a total of $50,000 for her services, according to a city spokesperson.

Statutory meetings will be held virtually on June 25, July 30, and August 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Zoom link for each meeting will be posted on the body’s website.
