Tornado touches down in Portage County on Saturday

According to the National Weather Service, an EF-0 tornado occurred in Brimfield on Saturday.

The tornado touched down near a parking lot of an industrial building before moving onto a golf course, the NWS said.

Trees and pedestrian bridges were damaged as a result of the tornado, the NWS said.

Tornado warnings were issued for Mahoning, Portage and Columbiana counties on Saturday, all of which have expired.

News 5 Meteorologist Phil Sakal has more:

At approximately 3:25 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted 8 miles southeast of Ravenna, moving east at 15 mph.

"Weather spotters reported a funnel cloud. At 3:39 p.m., emergency management reported a funnel cloud south of Craig Beach," the NWS said.
