Brothers and uncle sentenced for 2023 Broadway assault

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two brothers and their uncle have all been convicted in connection with the violent attack and gang assault of a man on Broadway in 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Brothers Amonti Atkins, 24, and Amari Atkins, 28, and their uncle Demetrius Gore, 53, carried out the attack on the morning of Aug. 20, 2023, on Broadway near Deshler Street. Atkins stabbed the man in the face, and the three men repeatedly punched, kicked and stomped him while he was on the ground.


The victim, who was 41 years old at the time of the incident, was transported to ECMC for treatment. She is still recovering in a long-term care facility.

The brothers were each sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after both pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and first-degree gang assault.

Meanwhile, Gore was sentenced to five years in prison followed by a year and a half of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to second-degree assault.

A final protection order was also issued on behalf of the victim.
