IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals face heavy fines for violating code of conduct, Rishabh Pant suspended for one game

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant faces a hefty fine and a one-match ban for violating the IPL code of conduct and maintaining a slow over rate in IPL match 56 against Rajasthan Royals. This is the third time in IPL 2024 that Delhi Capitals have been fined for the same violation and this time BCCI imposed a hefty fine of ₹30 lakh against the skipper.

“Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team posted a slow over rate in the 56th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan. “Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024,” BCCI said.

The BCCI has also imposed heavy fines on the remaining players in Match 11, including the Impact Player, who will be fined up to 30% ₹12 Lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is less.

“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, have each been individually fined INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” the statement added.

Delhi Capitals appealed against the hefty fine, which was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman and a virtual hearing was conducted.

“In accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals have appealed against the decision of the match referee. The appeal was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding,” BCCI added.

Rishabh Pant’s suspension means Delhi Capitals will have to announce a new replacement captain for their next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This year, BCCI has taken a tough tone against violations of the IPL code of conduct and has not shied away from imposing fines on the biggest player.
