Florida man arrested after junk food binge outside Walgreens’ opening hours

A Florida man was able to fulfill a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fantasy and indulged in a huge amount of junk food without supervision. Unfortunately for him, the binge ended with him being handcuffed.

Surveillance footage showed the man entering a Walgreens store in New Smyrna Beach, about 40 miles northeast of Orlando and south of Daytona Beach, around 9:40 p.m. on Monday. The video shows the man making a beeline for the restroom, where he remains until about 2:30 a.m., according to a Facebook post from New Smyrna Beach police.

The man is seen “treating” himself with a pack of cigarettes and several snacks, including Tostitos spinach dip, a Reese’s peanut butter bar, Ghirardelli chocolate bars and a Dr. Pepper

The man eventually triggered an alarm while snacking and officers arrived about 20 minutes later.

Police come and help unlock the doors

New Smyrna Beach officers responded to a 911 call about an alarm going off at Walgreens and arrived at the store around 3 a.m.

The alarm company informed police that a man had been in the store since closing time at 10 p.m. According to police, he made “no attempts to leave the store or call for help.”
