US Attorney General Merrick Garland will not visit Las Vegas following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Garland was scheduled to visit Nevada on Monday to speak at the National Bar Association convention at Caesars Palace. He also canceled planned visits to Idaho, Utah and Kansas. Garland will instead remain in Washington, DC, to closely monitor the investigation.

Garland is regularly informed about the attack, said Xochitl Hinojosa, director of public affairs for the Justice Department.

“This morning he met with department staff and partners from across the government,” Hinojosa said in a statement.

In Nevada, Garland was scheduled to meet with First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sue Fahami and federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement officials, a press release said.
