The Jewish community in Austria is reporting an increase in anti-Semitic incidents across the country.

In Vienna, graffiti recently appeared on the facades of Jewish shops in the second and 20th districts, with slogans such as “Death to Zionism” and “Victory for Palestine.”

In response, National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, along with Israeli Ambassador to Austria David Roet and President of the Israelite Religious Society of Austria Oskar Deutsch, responded by painting over the graffiti in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, the heart of Jewish life in Austria.

The third European conference on anti-Semitism will take place in Vienna on May 6th and 7th under the leadership of Austrian Constitutional Minister Karoline Edtstadler.

This high-profile event brings together international experts to discuss strategies to combat anti-Semitism and promote Jewish life in Europe.

The conference will address the rise in online and offline anti-Semitism following the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, as well as incidents at American universities.

In particular, US and European experts are working together for the first time, with the participation of the US special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism, Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt.

Dalia Grinfeld, deputy director for European affairs at the Anti-Defamation League, is hosting the conference at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

The President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences Heinz Faßmann and Federal Minister Edtstadler will speak in the opening session.
