Hurricane Beryl Houston: At least 2 people died after trees fell on homes in northern Harris County and Atascocita, says Pct. 4

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – Two people were killed when trees fell on homes in the Houston area as Hurricane Beryl devastated southeast Texas Monday morning, officials said.

Harris County 4th Precinct Police Detective Mark Herman said the first incident occurred in the 20900 block of Heather Grove Court in the Atascocita area.

A 911 caller said a tree had fallen through the roof of his home and a man was trapped and unconscious.

In a later update, District 4 confirmed the man’s death.

In a social media post, Herman said the northbound lanes of Heather Grove Court were blocked by a tree and power lines were downed nearby on Kings River Drive and Water Point Trail.

Residents are asked to avoid the area if possible.

The second incident occurred in the 17400 block of Rustic Canyon Trail in the Ponderosa Forest neighborhood of northern Harris County.

A 911 caller said a tree had fallen through the roof of her grandmother’s house, according to Pct. 4.

In a later update, Police Chief 4 said the death of the 74-year-old victim was confirmed at the scene.

“Please pray for her family,” Herman said in a social media post. “Officers are continuing their investigation at the scene.”
