Jerry West, NBA and Lakers legend, dies at the age of 86

Jerry West, one of the greatest players in NBA history who founded the Lakers dynasty as general manager in 1980, died Wednesday morning, the Clippers announced.

He was 86.

West’s wife Karen was at his side when he died.

West, whose silhouette is used for the NBA logo, had worked as a consultant for the Clippers.

West was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and was an All-Star in every season of his 14-year career, all with the Lakers, helping them to the 1972 NBA championship.

Over the course of his career, he averaged 27 points, 6.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds.
