Newport man arrested in Providence for gun possession

A Newport man was stopped by police on Deborah Street in Providence on Sunday, June 9, and found in possession of a handgun, Rhode Island State Police said in a news release.

Soilandro Disla, 32, of Girard Avenue, was arrested on charges of possession of a license or permit to carry a pistol, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of large capacity feeding device prohibition.

He was taken to the Lincoln Woods Barracks overnight and held pending arraignment in Sixth Division District Court on Monday.
